+1 missed connection
+$1000 cash in pocket
+3 flights
+7 lost bags
+2 hours in the rental car to Granada
+1 hour lost in Granada trying to find our digs
+3,829 miles
=32 total hours of travel door to door and 5         jetlagged McKinneys

We saw a TRIPLE rainbow on our way to the JFK airport (but for some reason you can only see 1 in this picture). We took that as an omen that we would have a smooth trip (insert wrong answer buzzer noise here).

We did get upgraded to Business class on British Airways and the kids thought the leg rests, footrests, sleep masks, toothbrushes, earplugs were AWESOME! They also really liked that everyone had their own TV screen and could choose from a bunch of movies, video games and even Cartoon Network. Everyone slept on the first flight.

We flew from JFK to Gatwick-Gatwick to Madrid (anyone for a Wensleydale cheese and carrot chutney sandwich?)- and finally Madrid to Malaga. British Airways screwed up and only booked one of us on the Iberian Air flight to Malaga so when we tried to board they wouldn't let us on. We missed our flight when we tried to sort it out, but in the end we didn't mind too much because Iberian Air gave us $1000 CASH MONEY for our trouble (Delta and Continental are you listening?).

We let the kids wear their heelys in all three airports and they had a blast heelin' around. I think it got a lot of their wiggles out and wore them out so that they napped on each flight. So far no broken arms or heads (knock on wood). The kids had their first taste of Spanish food in the Madrid airport: the Spanish version of croque monsieur and jamon serrano and manchego cheese bocadillos (sandwiches). They loved them! I had a tortilla bocadillo.

We found our way to Malaga, but there are a ton of roadworks going on here and so we got completely lost. After consulting our map as well at 5 different Granadanians, we finally found our way to the apartment which turn out to be much nicer than the other Spanish apartments we have rented. However, there is NO DRYER and NO AC and only 2 out of 4 fans are working. But we all had a great time exploring and opening up every cupboard in the place. Ian already managed to use the bidet all by himself. He also asked me if I could order a pizza at 3 am . . . JETLAG! The kids are so hungry that they are eating all the healthy snacks they rejected only hours ago: sesame and honey encrusted almonds, cliff bars, pumpkin seeds mixed with dried cranberries . . . literally the only food in the house since all the stores are closed.

Hopefully, our luggage will be delivered tomorrow or else we will all be wearing the same clothes for three days in a row.
